RE-APPOINTMENT AS SHADOW ASSISTANT MINISTER FOR ROAD SAFETY

It is a great privilege to be re-appointed as the Shadow Assistant Minister for Road Safety.

Road safety is an issue that affects all Australians and each year we lose far too many through road trauma incidents. During the 12 months to the end of April 2019, there were 1,181 road deaths and more than 30,000 injuries. It is clear that far more needs to be done to improve safety on our roads.

There are however many passionate men and women working in organizations, community groups, institutions and associations across Australia who have as their key focus, a commitment to reducing road trauma and promoting road safety awareness.

Since I was appointed Shadow Assistant Minister for Road Safety in June last year, I have worked extensively with the road transport sector, including employment groups, the Transport Workers Union, state and national transport associations, owner drivers and regulators.

I look forward to continuing to consult with all to ensure that Australia’s transport industry remains safe and sustainable.

I will also continue to hold the government to account when it comes to supporting our domestic transport industry and the vital jobs and services it provides to Australian companies, employees and owner drivers.

I thank Anthony Albanese for the opportunity to continue to work in this extremely important role.
